Youtube’s ₹850 crore investment in India

Youtube CEO Neal Mohan at WAVES 2025 summit in Mumbai, made a declaration that will reshape the creator economy. He emphasized, “India is becoming a Creator Nation”. This announcement wasn’t just a compliment – it came with a serious financial backing. Youtube plans to invest ₹850 crores over the next two years to promote Indian creators, artists and media companies.

Over the last three years, Youtube has paid over ₹21000 crores to Indian creators and artists. Neal revealed that over 100 million channels uploaded content in the past year alone with more than 15000 channels crossing one million subscribers each.

The ₹850 crore investment will go toward tools, training, and other initiatives to help Indian creators widen their reach and build sustainable revenue models.

Youtube claims it has supported over 75000 jobs and contributed over ₹10,000 crores to India’s GDP which has helped Indian creators turn content production into a viable business.

Real Challenges, Real Opportunities

The ₹850 crores investment will go towards tools, training and other initiatives to help Indian creators widen their reacch and monetise sustainable revenue models.

Youtube’s key focus has always been inclusivity. It stands strong on the decision of allocating funds to vernacular and regional creators from Tier2 and Tier3 cities. With the help of AI, auto-dubbing will break language barriers and make the content accessible to all, widening the reach for every creator. He quotes, “AI should enhance creativity, not replace it.”
