The grand inaugural of World Audio, Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 was witnessed at the Jio World Convention Centre on May 1 2025. PM Modi officially inaugurated the summit emphasizing on his dream for India being the Global Hub for storytelling and creative innovation. The inauguration was graced by numerous luminaries from our film industry including Sharukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar, Akshay Kumar and Rajnikanth.
Adam’s Presence Clarified
The buzz around WAVES was at its peak when we saw Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram catching up with bollywood celebrities and social media influencers and the curiosity spread like wildfire. Knowing what we know now, Adam’s visit to India is primarily focused on attending WAVES but we are yet unaware of any hidden agendas to his visit.

Legends Reunite
We were delighted to see the industry veterans, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Mithun Chakraborty, Rajnikanth and Chiranjeevi coming together for a session, “Legends and Legacies: The stories that shaped India’s soul.”
They spoke about their journeys, inspirations and the entertainment industry. Chiranjeevi also revealed how he was inspired by Mithun da to never wear makeup and look like an average boy and how Amitabh inspired him to achieve his acting goals. This Panel that was moderated by Akshay Kumar kicked off the Summit to a great start.
Sharukh an Insider or an Outsider?
The most awaited event was the session hosted by Karan Johar in conversation with Sharukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, titled, “The Journey, from Outsider to Ruler.” There could not have been a better trio for this as Sharukh and Deepika, both entered the industry and made it to the top on their own. He even said, “I also have a problem with this insider and outsider. I do not think it is important where you come from and want to make a place in this world. But what is important is how you are making a place for yourself in whatever you do, films, business anything.”
SRK revealed that the only time he wanted to quit acting was when Karan Johar presented him with a script that required him to wear a skirt throughout the film.
When asked for his take on today’s generation, he said “Everyone wants to be seen because of social media but in that rush they have forgotten to see themselves. Instead of wanting to be seen, walk on the path diligently and look at ourselves.” His words moved the audience and we are in awe.
The Controversial Statement
SS Rajamouli sparked a debate on his statement, “No country in the world comes even close to India in terms of having this rich, vibrant culture of storytelling. But yet, on the international stage, we are not on par with the USA, South Korea, China, and other countries.”
On a platform where India’s strength is showcased, his controversial statement was perceived negatively. We do not doubt the intentions behind it but was this the right stage for it?
Final Thoughts
From the moment of Inaugral till the last event, Day 1 of WAVES was filled with exciting conversations, shocking revelations, beautiful insights and Powerplay. This four-day event is going to break barriers and become a global sensation.
