The 2025 action drama Jaat, starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda seems to have landed itself in a controversy and is facing severe backlash due to a scene perceived as disrespectful to the Christian community and the community is pushing forward for a ban.
What was the Controversial Scene?
In the film, Randeep Hooda’s character is depicted standing inside a church beneath a crucifix with a congregation praying. The crucifix is placed above the sacred pulpit and the members of the Christian Community have found this portrayal strongly offensive as it includes scenes of unruly behavior and intimidation which has angered the entire community. The impact of this scene caused the protesters chanting slogans like “Randeep Hooda Murdabad”. The Community groups were also seen protesting outside the theatres and urging people to boycott the film.
Apart from the church scene, the film also faced criticism in Tamil Nadu for depicting a fictional militant group resembling the LTTE. This portrayal of the militant group has led to calls for a boycott in the region. It seems like the film has caught itself in a whirlwind of controversies.
Response to the Backlash
Amidst the controversy, Sunny Deol has managed to keep calm and has urged the audience to not be provoked by any such protests and to not label Jaat as a religious movie. Disregarding all the preconceived notions, Sunny Deol has stated “We are loved by everyone and we love everyone. We represent the whole country”. However, Randeep Hooda has refrained from addressing the said controversy.
Does Jaat face a legal ban?
The entire controversy has led to numerous calls for censorship and demands for a ban, but there is no official legal complaint filed against the creators yet but the authorities are urged to halt the film’s screening. Due to the protests, the local authorities may take a call to ban the movie in certain areas. Do we foresee a nationwide ban or is it just a rumour? Share your thoughts.
