Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan set social media abuzz after an emotional video of him went viral sparking a frenzy of interpretations, online chatter and rumours. It seemed like everyone with an insta account had something to add to the debate. Babil, known for his openness on mental health and awareness had not even dealt with his grief while he was pushed into stardom and instantly became the “new kid on the block.”
What Sparked the Flame?
The viral video of him sobbing and dropping names of his colleagues like Siddhant Chaturvedi, Adarsh Gaurav, Ananya Pandey and a few others saying “Bollywood is so rude” led to a widespread speculation on how these stars are perceived. From the moment this video went viral, the name-dropped stars have been facing criticism and became the ‘villains’ of this story.
This viral video took such a bad turn that Babil was forced to delete the video as well as deactivate his account. His silence led to more speculation and sparked debates on the cancel culture in Bollywood and favouritism in the industry.
Reality Check
Contrary to the perception and the judgements made on social media about his equation with other actors, Babil Khan’s PR team issued an official statement on this blown out controversy stating that Babil was actually trying to show support and acknowledge the talent of all those whom he mentioned in this viral video. He sincerely admires Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Pandey, Arjun Kapoor, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gaurav and Arjun Kapoor for their authenticity and passion. His team also assured his fans that he just had a bad day, which he is allowed to as any normal person and that he is well and safe now.
It is genuinely concerning to see how an actor’s words are taken out of context just for a tiny moment of drama and virality. Had the PR team not taken to social media to clarify, don’t you think this could have taken an ugly turn for all those involved?
Defended, Not Defeated
For all the gossip mongers, this might be disappointing but despite the controversy and defamation on social media, the name-dropped stars have taken to social media extending their love and support to Babil.
Siddhant Chaturvedi wrote, “I usually never engage in sh*t written about me and my colleagues, but this one’s personal. So to all the Redditors, Gossip columns and media portals of the internet. Stop.”
Adarsh Gaurav and Raghav Juyal also stood in support for Babil and reshared a happy picture of the three of them.
In response to the Adarsh’s support, Babil wrote “Thank you bhai. Aadhi zindagi misunderstanding mein hi guzar jaati hai, lekin asli doston ka saath dil ko shuddh rakkhe, yeh hi iccha hai…”
“Bhai, you are my icon, my idol and my elder brother that I never had,” Babil Khan wrote for Raghav Juyal.
Ananya Pandey also took to Instagram to show solidarity and wishes only love and good energy for Babil.
Sacred Games actor, Kubbrra Sait also defended Babil sharing a long note on Instagram, saying that she has all the admiration for Babil Khan. She talks about his grief, his stardom and the struggles that come along with it and above all, the pressure that is REAL. Her immense love and respect for him reflects in the heartfelt post.
Every person who was mentioned in the video, has actually come out in support of Babil, putting an end to the controversy theories. But wait, there is someone who is not happy and here’s why…
Criticised Once Again
Filmmaker Sai Rajesh was offended when Babil’s PR team mentioned others who stood in his support but left out more. He responded to the statement shared by Babil’s team saying,
“It feels like only those whose names were mentioned in his video deserve respect – and the rest of us are just fools for standing by him all this while?”
This clearly did not sit well with Babil Khan who gave 2 years of hard work to the filmmaker and did everything and beyond to justify the vision that Sai Rajesh had for his character. Babil also quoted “I even slit my wrist for him.”
The comments, now deleted, have sparked another raging controversy but we just hope for his well-being for now.
Final Words
Babil does not identify himself as a nepo kid but he lacks the effort and dedication to the craft that a true actor needs, like his father Irrfan Khan did. Does he secretly want the Nepo Kid Treatment or does he have a strategy in queue? What do you think?
