Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer Review: Humour, Heart and Redemption

Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is back and this time he brings the entire package of emotions, drama, laughter, redemption and a powerful message, blended together in the upcoming, Sitaare Zameen Par, the most awaited ‘thematic sequel’ of Taare Zameen Par. The trailer for this much anticipated 2025 film, dropped on May13 and has already captured the hearts of audiences. Unveiled by Aamir Khan Productions, the trailer offers a first glimpse of this feel good drama.

New Role, New Challenges

Aamir Khan is seen portraying the role of ‘Gulshan’, a flawed , rude, frustrated yet passionate basketball coach with a fiery temper and reckless choices and drunken mishap that land him in court. His punishment – to train a group of individuals with intellectual disabilities whom he terms as ‘pagal’, increasing the extent of his punishment. The trailer gives a sneak peek into his reluctant journey that transforms his life!

Meet the Team

The trailer shows a blend of starcast and fresh faces. Actress Genelia Deshmukh plays Aamir’s love interest, adding a romantic layer to the plot.

The Cast also features talented actors like Brijendra Kala, Gurpal Singh and Dolly Ahluwalia who are in for madness in this gripping story.

The group of individuals with intellectual disabilities are the heart and soul of the movie and the cast features ten promising newcomers: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.

Darsheel Safary, who once played the unforgettable Ishan Awasthi is back in a new role that hasn’t been revealed yet..but his return marks a full circle for longtime fans!

Why is it a Spiritual Sequel?

If the title seems familiar, it is intentional! Sitaare Zameen Par is positioned as a spiritual sequel to the iconic Taare Zameen Par (2007). While the OG explored dyslexia through the eyes of a young boy, this film flips the perspective as its focus is the transformation of the adult protagonist.

Aamir Khan, himself reveals “My character, Nikumbh, in Taare Zameen Par was a very sensitive person. In this film, my character’s name is Gulshan, but his personality is exactly the opposite of Nikumbh. He is very rude, politically incorrect, and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems.”

An Adaptation of Champions?

For the unaware, the film is inspired by the 2018 Spanish hit ‘Champions’. Early glimpses suggest that Aamir Khan and Director R.S Prasanna have reimagined the film for the Indian audience with its cultural context. We just hope that the film is truly just ‘inspired’ and not another remake!

Our Feel Good Moment

This trailer masters the art of balancing light hearted humour with emotional depth. From the training montages, witty dialogues to moments of misunderstanding, it draws viewers into the characters’ worlds and our smiles were not forced!

Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s music adds a magical layer to the highs and lows throughout the trailer.

Final Thoughts

At its core, Sitaare Zameen Par is about acceptance…not of others but of oneself. The trailer itself is thought provoking as it depicts how the idea of ‘normal’ is different for everyone. If we trust these glimpses, Aamir Khan is to deliver another gem, the one that stays with you long after the credits end.

Mark your calendars, Sitaare Zameen Par, 2025’s most talked about film, releases on June 20, 2025.
